Little Light of Mine, I’m Gonna Let It Shine, Let
It Shine, Let It Shine, Let It Shine!…The
words to this hymn resonated each Sunday morning, with
passion and conviction throughout the one-room church
I attended as a child. The meaning of those words was
reinforced in me throughout my life by the loving guidance
of my mother and father. Their “Light” was
unconditional love, faith in God, kindness to others,
and hard work, “Everybody’s got a light in
them somewhere, put there by the Lord,” they would
tell my brothers and I, and show us. “It’s
up to you to determine how the world will see the light
in you.” If Alfred and Georgia Turney could see
how the lights they cultivated shine today, their smiles
would be brighter than the sun. |
